The Charm of Spoleto Festival 2020

Montefalco - Assisi - Spoleto - Spello - Bevagna

A journey into the unique and magical atmosphere of Spoleto Festival, one of Europe’s leading cultural events that offers concerts, ballet and contemporary dance performances and art exhibitions. Spoleto is one of the most fascinating and important medieval towns in Italy and has hosted the internationally renowned Festival dei Due Mondi (Spoleto Festival) since it was founded by Giancarlo Menotti in 1958.

Day 1: Once you have checked into the beautiful spa hotel in Montefalco, you will enjoy a Welcome Lunch at a private country house, followed by a visit to the Temple of Clitumnus, a UNESCO world heritage site. The day will end with dinner at one of our favorite restaurants where you will meet one of Umbria’s finest chefs.

Day 2: Today you will visit Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, where your expert tour guide will show you some of Umbria’s great treasures, including the Giotto frescos in the great Basilica. You will then have a wine-tasting lunch at one of the region’s finest vineyards and then relax in your spa hotel before dinner.

Day 3: You will have a guided tour of Spoleto and spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool or at the hotel spa. After an early dinner, you will attend the Spoleto Festival, for an open-air Dance Performance in the Teatro Romano.

Day 4: You will enjoy a relaxing morning strolling through the magical medieval town of Spello, known as the City of Flowers. After a light al fresco lunch, you will be able to relax in Montefalco before attending the Final Concert of the Festival followed by the exclusive Gala Dinner.

Day 5: Today you can either take it easy at La Selva Country House, reading in the shade, lying by the pool or walking through the olive groves or visit the magical town of Bevagna and the internationally renowned Caprai vineyard for wine-tasting. The festive Farwell Dinner at La Selva will include live music and “baci e abbracci”.

Sunlight In Umbria

Assisi – Spoleto – Spello – Bevagna – Gubbio

Umbria is a dream that keeps you coming back for the rest of your life. An unforgettable journey discovering the mystical land of St. Francis, its majestic gothic architecture, timeless green landscapes and the secret corners of Umbria.

Day 1: Your day of arrival will be a gentle introduction to the joys your Umbrian week has in store. On the way to your hotel, you will stop for an ‘al fresco’ Welcome Lunch at a private country house, La Selva, where you will meet the travel team. You will then transfer to Spoleto to check in to your hotel, the restored historical residence, Palazzo Leti.

Day 2: From your hotel, you will be taken on a guided tour of Spoleto, one of the most important cities in the region with history dating back to 5th century BC. After an ‘al fresco’ lunch overlooking the spectacular Duomo, you will be taken to see the magical Tempietto sul Clitunno (a UNESCO World Heritage site) in a protected natural park.

Day 3: Bevagna is one of the greatest examples of medieval cities in Italy. Here you will visit an original medieval house, Roman remains, a cashmere factory and one of the most famous butchers in Italy. You will then visit the Dionigi winery where you will taste the finest wines of the region and enjoy a delicious lunch of local specialities.

Day 4: After checking out of Palazzo Leti, you will travel to Assisi and spend the whole day exploring the birthplace and home of St. Francis. Your expert guide will unravel the secrets of this mystical town and the treasures it holds, including the Giotto frescos in the Basilica di S. Francesco. At the end of this inspirational day, you will check in to the luxurious resort farmhouse, Borgo La Marmotta, near Clitunno, where your luggage will already be waiting in your room.

Day 5: A nature extravaganza awaits as you are taken to the Urbani Tartufi estate in the Valnerina (the valley that runs from the Sibillini Mountains along the River Nera). Together with local truffle-hunters and their dogs, you will discover how this local delicacy is brought to your table. After lunch (which will include the truffles you hunted!), you will visit the spectacular Marmore Falls, built by the Romans and the tallest man-made waterfalls in the world.

Day 6: Today you will visit the historical sites in the ancient city of Gubbio, which dates back to the Etruscan period. On the way back to the hotel, you will stop at the magical hill-town of Spello, known as “the City of Flowers” and can end the day in the pool or having a massage in the hotel spa.

Day 7: After such a busy week, your last day will be one to take at an easy pace. You might like to go shopping in Montefalco, Spoleto or Foligno for linens, ceramics, clothes or local products or stay by the pool and relax in the spa. Early evening, you will return to La Selva Farmhouse, where your week began, for a festive Farewell Dinner with live music, “baci and abbracci”.

Join us and experience the magical region of Umbria and its many hidden culinary secrets. Learn about the ancient olive-oil and wine-making traditions and the festivities around them, discover the alchemy of the local cuisine, taste the best Umbrian wines and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes while visiting some of Italy’s most beautiful medieval towns.

Day 1: On arrival, you will be picked up and taken to your hotel, a splendid and exquisitely appointed historical residence in Spoleto and will enjoy a day of sight-seeing, local shopping and culinary exploration.

Day 2: Your visit to Bevagna will include a guided tour of one of the most famous medieval cities, meeting some of the local personalities and visiting a local cashmere designer. You will then enjoy wine-tasting and light lunch at one of the finest vineyards in the region, and will dine at one of the best-loved restaurants in Spoleto.

Day 3: One of the highlights of the trip is a cooking lesson at the renowned Locanda Rovicciano, where Chef Andrea Leonelli and his staff will give you a culinary experience to remember! During the afternoon, you will go to the “Dolci d’Italia” Festival (an expo of sweets, pastries and chocolate from all over Italy) in Spoleto.

Day 4: After a tour of Montefalco, knows as “The Balcony of Umbria”, you will spend the day at a private country home for olive-picking, lunch and visit to an olive mill to see the first press and sample the new oil.

Day 5: Your visit to Assisi will include a guided tour of the town and the monastery founded by St. Francis famously decorated by Giotto. On your way back to the hotel, you will stop in Spello, (the City of Flowers) and the evening will be spent at La Selva for a festive Farewell Dinner including live music!
